Overview

Rugged Industrial Relay Board

The IR104 is a PC104 rugged industrial relay module featuring 20 optoisolated digital inputs and 20 relay outputs, sufficient for many industrial control applications. Each input can accept either AC or DC voltages with a range of 3-24V and are accessed through a 40-pin header that mates with a standard ribbon cable. The 20 SPST (Form A) relays have a long lifetime (20,000,000 operations, 100,000 at full load) and quick actuation time (6ms max operate, 3ms release). The relays are supplied with a contact rating of 250VAC or 30VDC @ 5A giving the IR104 the ability to directly control switches for small motors or solenoids. The relays are in the open state when deactivated / powered off.

To allow for quick and convenient installation, a pair of 20-position detachable terminal blocks accept wire sizes of 14-28AWG. The IR104 is a compact design measuring 3.550" x 3.775" with a maximum component eight of 0.492". A 16-bit PC/104 BUS is included to allow for easy integration into embedded systems or to allow for up to 4 IR104 modules to be stacked together.

The IR104 operates on single 5VDC, has a -25° to +70°C operating temperature range and is now RoHS compliant.

1. What is the power consumption of the IR104?

2. What is the minimum and maximum and input voltages, both DC and AC for the optocoupled inputs?

The input range is 3 to 24V. The input voltage is limited by the heat dissipation of the current limiting resistors. Since AC voltage is referred to in RMS, the power dissipation of 24VAC is the same as 24VDC. Therefore the input range is the same for both AC and DC input voltages.

3. What is the operating temperature range of the IR104?

The relays used on the IR104 are the limiting factor for the temperature range. They are rated for use between –25C to 70C (-13F to 158F).

4. What is the purpose of connector CN3?

Connector CN3 is used in the production process to program the Lattice PLD IC on the IR104.
