The key to the REB-2000's performance is the packaging of SiRF Star II technology and a Royaltek proprietary navigation algorithm. The adoption of this technology allows full GPS functionality in a stampsized footprint by combining a high performance GPS engine, full function CPU, memory, and a radio frequency (RF) front-end in two chips. Location accuracy is enhanced by taking advantage of two recent GPS infrastructure improvements, the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and the US Department of Transportation's national network of ground and beacon based differential stations called National Differential GPS (NDGPS). In addition, mitigation hardware has been added the GPS engine to improve accuracy in canyons, foliage, and urban environments.
The REB-2000 receiver is miniature, measuring just 30x30x8mm. It is 12-channel, NMEA-0183 protocol compliant, and requires a mere +33V DC power with a current consumption of 65mA while in trickle power mode or 170mA pack current. Acquisition times for the REB2000 range from 48 seconds for cold start to 8 seconds for hot start. Reacquisition time is 0.1 seconds. Other features of the receivers include a WAAS demodulator, single satellite position operation, and dual multipath rejection.
